SYNTHESIS OF TiO2 NANOSTRUCTURES VIA HYDROTHERMAL METHOD
Bilgin, Nursev; Agartan, Lutfi; PARK, JONGEE; Öztürk, Abdullah (2014-10-16)
Titania (TiO2) nanostructures were produced via hydrothermal method using amorphous TiO2 powders synthesized by the sol-gel precipitation process. The hydrothermal system was isolated from the environment and hydrothermal reactions were allowed to execute at 130 degrees C for 36 h at autogeneous pressure, and at a stirring rate of 250 rpm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis revealed that TiO2 nanofibers formed instead of nanotubes upon utilization of amorphous TiO2 precursor. After hydrothermal syn...
Probabilistic-numerical modeling of stability of a rock slope in Amasya-Turkey
Gheibie, Sohrab; Akgün, Aykut; Department of Mining Engineering (2011)
Rock slope stability is considered as one of the most important fields in rock engineering. Developments of computation facilities and increase in application of sophisticated mathematical concepts in engineering problems have also affected the methods of slope stability analysis. In recent years, the numerical modeling methods have extensively applied instead of limit equilibrium methods. Also, the probabilistic methods are considered in rock slope designs to quantify the uncertainties of input effecting v...
Modeling diseases with multiple disease characteristics: comparison of models and estimation methods
Erdem, Münire Tuğba; Kalaylıoğlu Akyıldız, Zeynep Işıl; Department of Statistics (2011)
Epidemiological data with disease characteristic information can be modelled in several ways. One way is taking each disease characteristic as a response and constructing binary or polytomous logistic regression model. Second way is using a new response which consists of disease subtypes created by cross-classification of disease characteristic levels, and then constructing polytomous logistic regression model. The former may be disadvantageous since any possible covariation between disease characteristics ...

Modeling of intersonic delamination in curved and thick composite laminates under quasi-static loading
Gözlüklü, Burak; Çöker, Demirkan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2014)
One of the widely used geometrically complex parts in advanced commercial aircraft is L-shaped composite laminates in which mixed-mode delamination failure is reported. Dynamic delamination under quasi-static loading is studied using explicit finite element method in conjunction with Cohesive Zone Modeling (CZM). A 4-noded interface element working with Bilinear (BL), Xu-Needleman (XN) and ratedependent bilinear (RD) CZMs are implemented in ABAQUS/Explicit. The interface elements are validated with benchmar...
